CHIROPRACTIC CARE

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

All Chiropractic Care is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of every, cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord and all the nerves in the body. In essence, Chiropractic is a practice that concerns itself with the relationship between the nervous system and the function (health) of your body.

Vertebral
Subluxation
Complex

While the brain is protected by the skull, the spinal cord is more vulnerable. The information superhighway of our bodies passes through channels of 24 moving bones called vertebra. If injury, poor posture or loss of muscle strength causes these bones to deviate from their optimal positioning, they can put pressure on nerves in the area, irritating the nervous system. Depending on where along the spine this irritation occurs, corresponding areas of the body that are fed by these nerves will experience an impairment of communication with the brain. Over time this impairment can disrupt your body's natural regulation and healing mechanisms in the affected areas.

An interruption of nerve communication impairs your body's ability to heal and regulate itself in the affected area.

This interruption to nerve flow is known as Vertebral Subluxation, and is a primary cause of many health issues beyond neck and back pain or numbness of the extremities. Asthma, migraines, heart and respiratory problems and many organ-related disorders can be symptoms of distorted communication with the nervous system stemming from a VSC. Working with chiropractic treatment can help reduce existing VSC, and in time, can alleviate the symptoms triggered by this neural disruption.

Contributing Factors of a VSC

Understanding a 'complex' problem

More than just a “pinched nerve”, it's called a Vertebral Subluxation Complex for a reason: Five factors contribute to the particular issues present in each case. BoneNerveMuscleSoft Tissue and Chemical factors contribute to each unique case of VSC. This is why resting, icing and taking an anti-inflammatory medication is not enough to fully correct the cause of the pain you're feeling. Rather than just treating symptoms, we work from a fundamental level to correct every aspect of your particular VSC through analysis of each of these factors:

BONE

Where the vertebra is either out of position, not moving properly, or are undergoing degeneration. This frequently leads to a narrowing of the spaces between the bones through which the nerves pass; often resulting in irritation or impingement of a nerve...

NERVE

Any disruption of the normal flow of energy along the nerve fibers, causing the messages traveling along the nerves to become distorted or blocked. In addition to pain,  the tissues fed by affected nerves receive distorted signals, impeding your body's ability to heal, maintain and properly function in the areas that are fed by those nerves - including organs and functions of the body. It's common for nerve irritation to directly affect muscle...

MUSCLE

Muscles both affect, and are affected by a VSC. Bone irritates nerve, the irritated nerve can cause a muscle to spasm, the spasmed muscle pulls the vertebrae further out of place, which then further irritates the nerve and thus begins a self-perpetuating cycle. Once this cycle sets in, it begins to affect soft tissue...

SOFT TISSUE

The effects of a VSC spreads to surrounding tendons, ligaments, blood vessels and other tissues as the misaligned vertebrae tug and squeeze connective tissue with tremendous force. The body responds with inflammation in an attempt to reduce movement and so we also consider the chemical aspect...

CHEMICAL

Changes in the chemistry of affected tissues are related to inflammation in the affected area - a natural defense mechanism. However, inflammation inhibits blood flow, flexibility and the body’s ability to heal itself.

By analyzing each of these factors, we can start on the path to recovery:

• correct subluxations
• reduce nerve, muscle and tissue irritations
• restore neural pathways
• encourage the body to heal naturally
• prevent further damage and develop habits for growth

It’s complex...

BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

If not addressed with a comprehensive plan that takes each of these five factors into consideration, local pain and disorders throughout the body will continue to emerge and worsen.

This is why we advocate an approach that considers all the facets of your TOTAL HEALTH. Chiropractic is one of the three major areas we work with, but it works better when combined with nutrition and exercise program that addresses you particular health picture. Our goal is to help you figure out your prescription for better living - from treatments we offer in our clinic to wellness guidance we offer in person and online.
